The United States and the Middle East: What Comes Next after Iraq?
March 27-28, 2008
Cabot Intercultural Center, Tufts University, Medford Campus
This conference aims to identify issues pertaining to the
Middle East that will be of concern to Americans in the
coming years. Questions and discussions will center on how
other Middle Eastern states have been affected by the war in
Iraq and by regional challenges; how the new leadership in
Washington should understand and deal with political and
military developments that are unfolding in the Middle East;
and how the United States should best serve its own
interests while helping parties in the Middle East manage
ongoing conflicts.
The "War on Terrorism": Where Do We Stand?
January 25-26, 2007
Cabot Intercultural Center,
Tufts University,
Medford Campus
The aim of the conference is to assess the current state of the "War on
Terrorism" - its causes, impacts, and proposed solutions. What have been the
costs and results of the war, and what are the likely scenarios for the future?
Democratizing the Middle East?
January 26-27, 2006
Cabot Intercultural Center, Tufts University,
Medford Campus
This conference seeks to make a significant contribution
to an American understanding of the Middle East. The
conference also aims at helping students, faculty, and
policy makers put into perspective current U.S. policies
that aspire to promote "freedom" and "democracy" in the
Middle East.
Engaging in Dialogue on U.S. Foreign Policy
November 8-9, 2004
Cabot Intercultural Center,
Tufts University,
Medford Campus
This conference was planned to take place just after
the U.S. presidential elections, in the hope that
the discussions of our expert participants on how
best to move forward in the Middle East will provide
valuable insights and suggestions to a new or
returning U.S. administration. The centrality of
American leadership in the world and the
inevitability of its involvement with the Middle
East for years to come make it imperative to reflect
on what we can learn from recent foreign policy and
world events, and what we can recommend to those who
are in a position to shape the future of our world.
