Speaker Biography
After humanitarian missions in Lebanon and
Afghanistan, Jean-Pierre Filiu joined the French Foreign
Service and was assigned to Amman. He then became Deputy
Chief of Mission in Damascus and Tunis, and served as an
adviser to the Minister of Interior, the Minister of
Defense, and the Prime Minister, as well. Now a
full-time professor, Filiu has recently published
several books through Fayard, in Paris, including
Mitterrand and Palestine (2005) and The
Boundaries of Jihad (2006). His Apocalypse in
Islam (2008) has just been awarded the prestigious
Augustin Thierry Prize by the "Rendez-vous de l'Histoire"
in Blois.
